The first contemporary show representing an international selection of Roma artists
The Open Society Institute, the Allianz Kulturstiftung and the European Cultural Foundation sponsored The First Roma Pavilion at the 52nd Venice Biennale. With artists representing eight countries, this was the first truly European pavilion in the Biennale's history, located in an exceptional space – Palazzo Pisani Santa Marina, a typical 16th-century Venetian palace in the city’s Canareggio district.
Artists featured included, Daniel Baker, Damina and Delaine Le Bas who along with Ferdinand Koci are contributing to the Gypsy Roma Traveller History Month poster competition. Shot by legendary cinematographer Albert Maysles and directed by Jasmine Dellal, this dynamic musical documentary follows five Gypsy bands from four countries who unite for the Gypsy Caravan as they take their show around North America for a six-week tour, astounding every audience they meet.
