Storytelling project

The Storytelling Project Launch

The Launch of the Project in July at the West Park Centre was attended by all 6 schools, Gypsies, Roma and Travellers, professional Storytellers and members of the TES. It was a great success.

William DundenThis was a very interesting afternoon, which introduced the Project to everyone and gave Richard O'Neill and Wendy de Rusett, two of our professional storytellers, the opportunity to talk to schools and explore the type of input they could make in this project and how they could work with the children and also parents and the wider community.

There was lots of discussion about the aims of the project and everyone enjoyed the presentations and the accordion playing of William Dundun, a young Irish Traveller, who welcomed everyone with his music.

Richard O'NeillRichard O'Neill, a Gypsy Storyteller, entertained us all and explained how he will work in schools with the children. You can read more about Richard and the other Storytellers by clicking on the Professionals Link on the left.

Wendy de RusettWendy de Rusett, a Scottish Storyteller, learnt her craft from Duncan Williamson the famous Scottish Traveller Storyteller. She showed how puppets can liberate children and enable them to express their feelings and thoughts more imaginatively.

Jess SmithJess Smith, another Storyteller, could not make this meeting but we discussed her books and CD and how she will contribute to this project.

A Traveller Storytelling pack was prepared for everyone.

A video and DVD is available for loan from the TES, which covers the event.
